Privacy Policy
CAL — Centers for Advanced Learning ("CAL," "we," "us," or "our") operates CAL for Dementia, an educational platform at calfordementia.com that helps the people caring for someone with dementia coordinate as a circle of care and learn what each person needs. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, email address, and (if you choose text messaging) your mobile phone number.
- Care circle information — the first name of the person receiving care, your relationship to them, your role, and the roles and contact details of people you invite into the circle.
- Care and health-related details — information a caregiver may enter about the person receiving care, such as condition type, stage, or care needs, so guidance can be tailored. This is sensitive information and we treat it accordingly (see Section 6).
- Payment information — if and when paid features are offered, payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not store full card numbers.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data — basic log information such as pages viewed, general location derived from IP address, browser type, and timestamps, used to operate and improve the service and to keep it secure.
2. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and your circle of care.
- To send invitations you initiate and to deliver account, care-coordination, and service messages.
- To tailor educational guidance to the situation you describe.
- To secure the service, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
- To improve CAL and develop new features.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the care or health-related details you enter to advertise to you.
3. SMS / text messaging
If you provide your mobile number and opt in, CAL for Dementia may send you text messages related to your care circle — for example, invitations to join a circle, account and sign-in messages, and care-coordination notifications.
- Consent is opt-in. We only send texts to people who have provided their number and agreed to receive them. Invitation texts are sent at the request of a caregiver who has entered your number to invite you.
- Message frequency varies based on your activity and your circle's activity.
- Message and data rates may apply, according to your mobile carrier plan.
- Opt out any time by replying STOP to a message. Reply HELP for help. You can also contact us at the email below.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
We do not share your mobile phone number, opt-in, or SMS consent with any third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile information is used solely to deliver the CAL messages described above.
4. How we share information
We share information only as needed to run the service:
- Within your circle of care — members of a circle can see shared information about that person's care and the other members, according to each member's role and access level. You control whom you invite.
- Service providers — trusted vendors who process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations, including our database and authentication host, email provider, text-messaging provider, payment processor, and cloud hosting. They may use your information only to provide services to us.
- Legal and safety — when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
5. Data security
We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security rules that limit each person to the circles they belong to — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to respond promptly to any issue.
6. Sensitive and health-related information
Care details about the person receiving care are sensitive. We limit access to members of that person's circle based on role, we do not sell or rent this information, and we do not use it for advertising. CAL is an educational service and is generally not a "covered entity" under HIPAA; we nonetheless aim to handle health-related information respectfully and securely. Please share only what is helpful for coordinating care.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction — you can view and update your account information at any time.
- Deletion — you may request deletion of your account and associated personal information by contacting us.
- Communications — you can opt out of text messages (reply STOP) and of non-essential emails.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as under the CCPA/CPRA or similar laws) to access, delete, or restrict use of your information. Contact us to exercise them; we will not discriminate against you for doing so.
8. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
9. Children's privacy
CAL for Dementia is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice. Your continued use of CAL after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
